About Wicket & Chewie:
In the heart of Tampa Bay Rescues, two special lemurs named Wicket and Chewie found refuge. Both Wicket and Chewie were part of a South Florida conservation program dedicated to protecting endangered species. Wicket, a 3-year-old Black & White Ruffed Lemur was sponsored to go to Madagascar to assist with the conservation efforts for his critically endangered species. However, the outbreak of Covid halted all travel plans, and Wicket’s journey was postponed indefinitely.
A year later, Chewie, a Red Ruffed Lemur, was welcomed into Tampa Bay Rescues’ care, also a participant in the same conservation program as Wicket. Chewie, a resilient lemur, arrived at Tampa Bay Rescues with 100 stitches in her leg, a testament to the hardships she had endured. Unfortunately, Chewie’s injury prevented her from fulfilling her dream of traveling to Madagascar to contribute to the conservation cause, just like Wicket. Despite the obstacles they faced, Wicket and Chewie’s presence at the rescue center symbolizes hope and the importance of protecting endangered species.
