Did You Know…
Red Lionfish are nocturnal ambush predators.
Their distinctive appearance is a warning to potential predators that their grooved spines are equipped with venom which can cripple a predator.
Young lionfish, referred to as “young fry,” are almost transparent. They develop their beautiful colors and patterns as they mature.
Physical description: Complex pattern of red, black, brown, and white spots, lines, and swirls. Long, fanlike dorsal, pectoral, and anal fins.
