Sea Turtle Hospital Patient – Yarra

Exam Findings
Quiet and alert; good body condition; small puncture wound behind head on neck. Lungs were over-inflated with a large amount of GI gas. Swim test showed buoyancy in the back end but able to take deep breaths.
Initial Treatment
Received fluids and vitamins.

YARRA’S STORY

Yarra is a green sea turtle that was found on May 31, 2018, in Homosassa, FL. She was transferred to Clearwater Marine Aquarium from a vet clinic after she was found floating. She has some very small fibropapilloma tumors.

All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-18-172.
